Abstract: Stature is one of the important criteria for establishing identification of unknown person/dead body. Reconstruction of stature is a tedious job when dead bodies are mutilated, burnt or skeletonised. In this study, attempt is made to reconstruct stature by percutaneous measurement of hand as in cases of dismembered remains where most of other body parts are damaged. Stature is calculated from the length of hand which is the distance from the mid-point of styloid process of radius and ulna on the back of wrist to tip of middle finger. Standing height and length of hand are measured in 100 adult male and female students of 19-25 years of age and regression equation is derived by using formula. y = n(x-x)-y. Here x stands for length of hand and y the standing height. Regression equations are derived separately for both the sexes which is 5.1x+67.9 for male and 4.8x+70.2 for female. The multiplication factor for hand is 8.5 &amp; 8.7 for male and female, respectively. Stature calculated by regression equations is found close to the actual height (±3 cm) and by multiplication factors, it is more than ±5 cm in large number of the cases. This indicates regression equations are superior and more reliable than multiplication factors.</description>

Abstract: Homicides are common cause of loss of human lives since ancient times. This study was conducted to find out the method, cause and&#xD;
circumstances causing homicidal deaths in present era, especially in Northern Uttar Pradesh. A total of 227 homicidal deaths were&#xD;
studied for epidemiological and medico-legal aspects in dead bodies brought to the mortuary of LLRM Medical College, Meerut for&#xD;
medico-legal autopsies between June 2017 to October 2018. All the data thus collected was compiled and analysed in detail. The&#xD;
majority of the victims (70.92%) were males, and young adults (60.34%) between 21–40 years of age. Sharp edged weapons (50.66%)&#xD;
and firearms (29.96%) were used in the majority of the homicidal victims. Assailants had tried to hit on vital areas in almost all the&#xD;
cases, of which multiple areas were involved in more than 2/3 rd (69.61%) of the cases. Head was the commonest individual body part&#xD;
involved in 18.06% cases of homicides. Haemorrhage and shock were the most common cause of death (62.99%) and disputes on&#xD;
money and/or property remained the most important reason behind the homicides (23.34% cases).</description>

Abstract: Road traffic accident is one of the leading causes of trauma, disabilities and deaths. Nearly 50&#xD;
crore people are injured across the world every year of which more than 12 million turned into fatal.&#xD;
Amongst the various causes of road traffic accidents, rash driving is one of the major causes of accident&#xD;
which is substantiated by driving under the influence of alcohol. Alcohol not only inhibits self-control but&#xD;
impairs the judgment and visual acuity, affects safe driving that’s why it is restricted all over the world. In&#xD;
this study, the person who were driving and injured in road traffic accidents, were investigated for&#xD;
epidemiological and clinico-pathological characteristics including causes/factors responsible for the&#xD;
accidents. All the victims were male above 15 years of the age and motorcyclists were the most (82.52%)&#xD;
injured. Fault of the driver was the commonest (53.39%) reason behind the accident and large number of&#xD;
them (23.30%) had consumed alcohol before driving. This was also confirmed by estimating&#xD;
concentration of alcohol in blood by Vitros Auto-analyzer.</description>
